A graveside service with full military honors will be held for Jimmie E. Hughlett, age 82, at South Park Cemetery at 11 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2015. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 12, 2015, at LaGrone Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Elder Forrest Metcalf will be officiating.
Jimmie was born on September 10, 1932, to William and Carrie Hughlett in Tokio, TX. He married Bonnie Robertson in August 19, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 21, 1998. Jimmie married Nettie Miller on October 23, 1998. She also preceded him in death.
Jimmie was a family man, he loved and enjoyed his family. There was nothing he would not do for them. He loved to laugh, was always quick with a joke. He was everybody’s favorite uncle, was a strong shoulder to lean on. Jimmie was a true patriot and was proud of his military service, he especially enjoyed his time in Germany. He worked for Armstrong Construction for 25 years, then retired from Chaves County as a construction foreman. Jimmie was an excellent concrete man. After his retirement he continued to do jobs for Parks & Recreations and was a concrete mentor to Job Corps students well into his 70s. He was a true role model to all. There was nothing mechanical that he could not operate or repair.
One of the biggest joys of his children’s lives was watching him waltz and dance to polka with their mother. By watching them, they all learned to be as graceful and full of music, love and life as he was.
Jimmie is preceded in death by one son, Edwin Eugene Hughlett.
He is survived by son, Kenneth Hughlett and his wife Dawn of Roswell, NM; Frona Hughlett of Roswell, NM; Becky Jackson and her husband Ryan of Hico, TX; Donald Hughlett and Leslie of Roswell, NM; Louise Hughlett and Ken of Covington, GA; daughter-in-law, Barbara Sorem; sister, Bessie Irvin of California; grandchildren, Brittany Hughlett, Marissa Houston and her husband Josh, Joshua Hughlett and his wife Catherine, Travis Jackson, Logan Jackson and Faith, Brian Hughlett, Brandon Hughlett, Rodney Hughlett; great- grandchildren, Ruby Hughlett and Jimmie Hughlett III; step-daughters, Linda France and her husband Jerry of Roswell, NM; Karen Burnett of Roswell, NM and numerous step-grandchildren.
