Bob Halbert Byrd, 89, of Ruidoso, died on March 19, 2015 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on September 7, 1925 in San Angelo, Texas to the home of Homer and Sulena (Halbert) Byrd. Upon graduating from high school Bob joined the Army Air Corp and flew 26 missions over Japan as a gunner. When he was separated from the service he returned home and started a career in cattle and sheep ranching. He loved to fish, golf and to travel.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and two wives, Betty Windstead Byrd and Dixie Elledge Byrd. He is survived by his sons, Bob Halbert Byrd Jr. and wife Denise of Corona, Michael Byrd of Roswell, stepdaughter, Kim Isaacks and husband David of Ruidoso, stepson, Mark LaMoria of Port LaVaca, daughter-in-law Judy Byrd of Vaughn, his grandchildren, Robbie, Jason and Colin Byrd, Shannon Lightfoot and Candice Roberts, Marc Quist, Nathan Isaacks, Samantha Quist, Adam Isaacks, Trae Quist, and Amanda Isaacks. Also surviving him are six great- grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel of Ruidoso. Private entombment will be on Wednesday at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.
