Edgar L. Newby was born on Thursday, July 2, 1914 in Waurika, Oklahoma, the son of Rewel and Effie (Grubbs) Newby. He died on Monday, March 9, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 100 years of age.
Edgar married the former Miss Margaret Edwards on September 12, 1934 in Greenville, Texas. He was a minister for the Assemblies of God church until his retirement in 1981. He pastored First Assembly of God in Roswell from 1956 until 1981. He also pastored churches in Seminole and Enid, Oklahoma, Gallup, New Mexico, Levelland and Alvord, Texas. He was on the Southwestern Assemblies of God Board of Regents. He was presently a member of Carbondale Assembly of God Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Edgar was a horseman and a mule skinner. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his sons, Rev. Bill Newby and wife Eunice of Lees Summit, MO and Dr. Ed Newby, Jr. of Lawton, OK.
Grandchildren, Pam and husband Mike Kline of Independence, MO and Christy and husband Steve Poppen of Minneapolis, MN.
Great-grandchildren, Lauren, Brandon, Natalie, Drew, Nathan, and Avery. A sister, Lois Owen of Beaumont, TX and a brother, Paul Newby and wife Jean.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents, a sister, Ophelia Flowers, brothers, George Newby, Isaac Newby, and a sister, Faye McQueen.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 15, 2015 in Broken Arrow, OK. The burial is Sunset Memorial Gardens in Lawton, OK.
