Edgar Willard

Edgar Willard, age 92, of Austin, Texas, died Friday, May 8, 2015 at The Isle at Cedar Ridge in Cedar Park, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015, in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney with Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Edgar was born on March 31, 1923, in Olney, Texas to the late Doc Ross Willard and Mary Beatrice (Atchley) Willard. After graduating from high school, he attended Decatur Baptist College. He received his Bachelors of Arts from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas and his Masters of Arts in Education from Eastern New Mexico University.

He and Billie moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1958. Edgar served as an elementary and middle school principal in Roswell for 22 years. He and Billie moved to Abilene in 1981 where Edgar served 11 years as principal of Alta Vista Elementary. He retired from the Abilene Independent School District in 1992.

Edgar married Billie Jean Pirtle on Dec. 31, 1938 in Graham, Texas. She preceded him in death on Nov. 29, 2009. Edgar served his country proudly in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Wylie Baptist Church in Abilene.

Edgar was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Albert P. Willard of Aledo, Texas; two sisters: Viola Willard Mahon of Irving, Texas and Nola Lea Willard Perkins of Olney, Texas.

Edgar is survived by his three sons: Larry Willard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Fred Willard of Tucson, Arizona and Ron Willard and wife Judy of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
